The first competition day of the European Figure Skating Championship was opened by the ladies short program. Representatives of twenty-eight countries, including the Olympic champion 2018 - Alina Zagitova, performed their programs.

Russian skater Alina Zagitova won the short program with a score of 75.00. Sofia Samodurova, who also representing Russian national team, took the second position. She earned 72.88 points. Alexia Paganini of Switzerland was today on the third place with the score of 65.64.

«I prepared for the European Championship so carefully: I tried to work out elements, because there are no trifles. I paid attention to the short program, choreography, jumps. I tried to throw away all emotions and focus only on figure skating, - Alina Zagitova shared the details of the training. - We decided that I need to develop my skills, so we chose such a difficult program. Initially, I could not merge into it. This is something new for me. Now it's easier to roll the program. My coaches told me how to feel the music. Just after the national championship, I went to my hometown, where my parents and relatives helped me recharge with positive emotions and show a good result today».

«For me, this was the first European Championship, I tried to pay attention to all the elements, even those that work well. A lot of work has been done. We had successful practice in a training camp in Estonia and Novogorsk, - Sofia Samodurova told about her preparation and added: - I never think of places, I just try to do my best».

«For me, this is the first European Championship, so it’s hard to judge the rivals. Each girl is strong and each can deliver the result. Preparing for the championship, I paid special attention to elements, because I wanted to get the maximum number of points», - Alexia Paganini from Switzerland noted in the press comments.
