French skaters took the leadership in the Ice Dance competition

25/01/2019

At the European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk the competition between ice dancers have started. The Rhythm dance is the first in the todays program. Before 2018 this section was called Short dance, which in the season 2010-2011 replaced Compulsory and Original dances.

The current leaders are the French skaters Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron (84.79). Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin of Russia landed on the 2nd position (81.37). The third place was taken by Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri from Italy (79.05). Another Russian ice dancers Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov didn’t make it to the top 3 due to the Nikita’s serious mistake on twizzles (70.24).

It is worth to mention that for almost all potential leaders it is not the first championships in Minsk. In 2012 Victoria Sinitsina won the gold at the Junior World Championships (with her former partner Ruslan Zhiganshin). Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin were silver medalists. Gabriella and Guillaume took the fifth place at that year.

Free Dance will close the Championships on Saturday at 16:25.
